Workers Independent Review Officer (WIRO) in Ballina to update local legal experts
The NSW Workers Compensation Independent Review Officer will address lawyers and other legal professionals in Ballina tomorrow.
Mr Kim Garling will provide updates to the legal community, insurers, government departments and medical providers during the seminar at the Ramada Hotel in Ballina.
WIRO has helped more than 80,000 workers resolve disputes with their insurers since its inception 6-years-ago.
The seminar will focus on recent changes to the Worker’s Compensation Dispute Resolution Scheme, including new rules which came into effect on 1 January 2019 that means WIRO will handle all enquiries and complaints from all injured workers about Insurers. This will now include first responders such as Police, Firefighters and Paramedics.
WIRO resolves 65% of disputes between injured workers and their insurers within 48 hours. If a dispute cannot be resolved in this way, WIRO funds no-cost legal advice for the injured worker.
The changes mean that injured workers will have the support they need to resolve a legitimate dispute.
